The 88-storey PETRONAS Twin Towers, headquarters of the national petroleum company, PETRONAS, are currently the tallest twin towers in the world. Located within the Kuala Lumpur City Centre (KLCC), the Towers were designed by the renowned Caesar Pelli & Associates (USA) in association with KLCC architects.
The design embodies the culture and heritage of Malaysia by applying Islamic arabesques and employing repetitive geometries characteristics of Muslim architecture. Standing tall at 452metres above street level, rising with determination yet elegant from the depths of its grand foundations, to the tips of its massive 73.5metres pinnacles, the Towers took two years to construct and were completed in 1996. The identical Towers are linked by a 58.4metre sky-bridge at the 41st and 42nd floors, symbolizing a gateway to the future. The double-decked sky-bridge is 170metres above street level.
By design and engineering, the PETRONAS Twin Towers succeed at acknowledging Malaysia’s past and future, embracing the country’s heritage while proclaiming its modernization. It is a national landmark and a symbol of Malaysia’s progress and achievements as an emerging world-class economy.*
